-The Acupuncture Department's Development Activities

Clinical Practica in Hospital Environments
The Acupuncture Department offers clinical training in several hospital settings. Currently, a clinical praticum takes place at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Centre hospitalier de La Salle. There, twelve graduating acupuncture students complete one-third of the clinical training of their final semester. Jean Levesque is the clinical supervisor.

Acupuncture and Detoxification
Other third-year students will complete a 6th semester clinical practicum at the Centre Dollard-Cormier, a rehabilitation centre for alcohol and drug dependencies. Jasmine Viens is the clinical supervisor.

Collaboration and Exchanges with China
Since 1991, the Acupuncture Department has maintained close ties with Nanjing University of TCM in China. Seven professors from Rosemont College have gone to Nanjing to complete advanced clinical training since 1991.
Three professors from Nanjing University of TCM have come to Montreal to teach seminars and to act as Clinical Supervisors at the College.
Between 1994 and 2002, five different clinical practica were offered to third-year students and to practicing acupuncturists. These took place in hospitals affiliated with the Nanjing University of TCM. In all, 65 people went to China to take advantage of this clinical training. Monique Comtois is the professor in charge of these initiatives.

Ocean d'énergie, a work on the etymology of the Chinese names of the acupuncture points written by Ailian Pan.
Le Massage Tuina, a book on Tuina massage techniques written by Bernard Côté.
Manger le dragon, a compendium on Chinese dietetics written by Claude Émile Racette,
Points détente et acupuncture, tomes 1 et 2, on the use of trigger points in the acupuncture treatment of musculo-skeletal problems, written by Sylvain Cardinal.

Postgraduate Training and Continuing Education
For several years now, the Department of Acupuncture has been offering post-graduate training and seminars.

Over fifty activities have been organised to date. Some highlights include seminars

  • on gynaecology by Bob Flaws,
  • on Chinese pharmacopoeia by Ted Kaptchuck,
  • on musculo-skeletal evaluation by Sylvain Cardinal and Serge Lapointe,
  • on obstetrics and gynaecology by Jean Levesque,
  • on auricular therapy by Dr Zhou Yuyan from Nanjing,
  • and on acupuncture point indications by Philippe Sionneau.

Élisabeth Lapierre is in charge of postgraduate training.
